Project Management & Information Management

In a recent study on the needs of project-oriented organisations by the international PMI (Project Management Institute), 32% of the world-wide respondents indicated that information & knowledge in projects are "extremely important".

This confirms the feeling in projects and project organisations that a higher productivity can be achieved by dealing with communication, information and knowledge in and across projects in a better and more controlled way.

We all want a clear view of the information flows, the profitability and the results of a project.

Issues in projects

Practice has taught us that we always struggle with the following information elements in projects:

  • finding the correct and relevant information quickly
  • avoiding re-inventing the wheel as much as possible by maximising re-use
  • managing external information across projects.

The following communication elements are often also an obstacle:

  • push vs. pull of information
  • e‑mails and reports
  • definitions and terminology used
  • follow-up of outstanding actions and correspondence.
A project is information and communication

Managing a project is to a large extent managing a combination of information and communication. Towards the customer, the team members, the users, etc.

Yet the various methods pay relatively little attention to these elements. Everybody agrees that we live in an information and knowledge society. Therefore, it is high time that more attention is also paid to this domain in projects.

With its modular and integrated TINK platform, ICMS Group is able to meet these needs.
